The 4th Water Scarcity Living Lab for sustainable water management in andalusian destinations of AQUAMAN Project will take place in Seville, Spain

Event adressed to Spanish stakeholders and policy makers and project partners in the Andalusian Region.
Only in person in Seville, Spain.
Agenda & event in Spanish.

Living Lab for Sustainable Water Management in Andalusian destinations organized by El legado Andalusí Andalusian Public Foundation (Regional Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Government of Andalusia)  -LP of the AQUAMAN Project- supported by the Regional Ministry of Tourism and Andalusia Exterior of the Government of Andalusia  is conceived as a space for co-design, experimentation, and evaluation of innovative solutions to mitigate water scarcity in real-life contexts. This event will take place in Seville (Spain) the next 25 February and will bring together local authorities, communities, researchers, tourism agencies, and other key stakeholders in order to:

  • Test and adapt practical solutions from the catalogue “Blue Horizons: Innovative water solutions for tourism and climate-resilient regions”, developed by AQUAMAN.
  • Facilitate the co-creation of water management strategies tailored to specific territorial needs, integrating non-conventional water sources such as rainwater harvesting, stormwater collection, and treated wastewater.
  • Promote the replicability of solutions across European and Mediterranean regions.
Participatory approach

The Living Lab adopts a participatory and multi-sectoral approach that combines:

  • Technical and nature-based interventions, such as the construction of wetlands for wastewater treatment and reuse, rainwater harvesting systems, and hybrid solutions for stormwater management and urban cooling.
  • Integrated resource management plans, promoting balanced and sustainable water governance.
  • Policy and incentive strategies, identifying regulatory barriers and proposing reforms to facilitate the adoption of circular and decentralized solutions.
  • The official presentation of the AQUAMAN Project and its main outcome: the catalogue “Blue Horizons: Innovative solutions for water management in tourism and climate-resilient regions”, developed within the framework of the project. This catalogue constitutes a repository designed to advance sustainable water management in Mediterranean regions, with particular attention to tourism-dependent territories vulnerable to climate change, such as coastal areas and islands. The document consolidates a portfolio of adaptable solutions. Its main objective is to promote the valorization of non-conventional water resources, reduce water consumption, and minimize losses in distribution systems through integrated and context-adapted strategies.
Expected results

The expected outcomes of the Living Lab include:

  • Strengthened capacities of authorities, water managers, tourism businesses, and other stakeholders to implement sustainable water management practices.
  • Evidence and lessons learned to support transfer strategies to other coastal and island areas in the Mediterranean.
  • Contributions to effective policies, providing concrete inputs for local, national, and transnational plans, and promoting regulatory frameworks and incentives that accelerate the adoption of innovative approaches.
