What we do

Transferring tools and methodologies to combat the effects of water scarcity

AQUAMAN brings together the best practices, tools, and insights from a wide range of high-level projects to address one of the most urgent challenges in Mediterranean tourist destinations: water scarcity. By synthesizing this knowledge, we build a comprehensive and ready-to-transfer portfolio of nature-based and hybrid solutions, holistic resource management plans, and actionable policy recommendations.
Our work focuses on the identification and engagement of key stakeholders –including municipalities, water agencies, tourism SMEs, citizens, and visitors– to foster a collaborative approach to water preservation. Through awareness-raising and capacity-building activities, we aim to build consensus and support at the local level.

Central to our mission is the creation of a practical Catalogue, tailored to the needs of selected areas. This includes:

  • Technical tools and methodologies (e.g., wetland construction, rainwater harvesting, aquifer recharge)
  • Integrated management plans for sustainable water use
  • Policy guidance to overcome barriers in adopting nature-based solutions

In parallel, we enhance and expand the SMILO training programme, integrating new modules on fair and inclusive stakeholder engagement. Our “Transfer Feasibility Study” ensures these innovations are realistically and effectively adopted, adapted to each site’s specific conditions.
By connecting diverse experiences from beyond the Interreg ecosystem, AQUAMAN adds unique value to the Euro-MED community, enabling practical, innovative, and scalable solutions for a more resilient future.
